This may be one of the simplest recipes I've posted so far but might just be my favourite (for now). I've used matcha on and off for a number of years but my sister and her family travelled to Japan last year and she brought me back some delicious tea which had me back on the matcha bandwagon again. The tea she brought back was so much brighter and lighter in flavour when compared with the matcha I've been able to source here in Canada. It was light, flavourful and absolutely delicious! I still have a tiny bit left and I actually used it in this photo .. that's why the result is a light and dreamy matcha latte.
So why not include a little bit of matcha love in your diet?! I like to have this in the morning or even later on in the afternoon. Instead of reaching for a carb laden snack when the 3:00PM blues roll around try having this latte instead! Not only will you get a boost in energy but you may actually help trim your waist line. Recent data from human studies indicate that the consumption of green tea and green tea extracts may help reduce body weight, mainly body fat, by increasing the metabolic rate. All green tea is beneficial but because you are actually consuming the tea leaves in matcha, the benefits enjoyed with matcha tea are exponentially (approx 10 times) more significant than consuming steeped green tea.
I love to have my matcha with cashew milk (home made of course!), check out my simple cashew milk recipe here. I like to add a bit more creaminess by adding 1 tbsp of coconut cream and I generally skip the sweetener but you can add a teaspoon of coconut sugar. Add some boiling water to this mixture and blend in a blender until nice and frothy.
Hope you get a chance to try this simple recipe!
